Half-an-hour on from his success on Clifftop Chris Hayes doubled up at Leopardstown in the big money Irish Stallion Farms EBF 'Nasrullah' Handicap. The Limerick man got Mosala home in front for the Henry de Bromhead yard.
Hayes soon had the successful Kodiac gelding in a mid-field sit, and the four-year-old looked a little keen as Ballydoyle’s Baton Rouge leisurely took them along up front.
Mosala was clearly on good terms with himself as he powered forward from before the straight and he headed the pace-setter from over a furlong out.
Soon facing a stern challenge from Tauran Shaman de Bromhead’s charge wasn’t going to be denied and he stuck on gamely to come out on top by three parts of a length.
“Henry let me do my own thing. He said he had been dropping him in on his last two starts and I asked if I could ride him a little closer to the pace,” reported Hayes.
“They went hard early but then they steadied and he lit up a little bit on me. It was surprising how well he quickened and he was probably idling a little bit, the second horse helped him.
“He'll be a very good ride in the Colm Quinn Mile at Galway. I think he's tailor-made for the fast run mile and 100 yards around there. He has plenty of pace and he stays going.”
The Stewards informed Joseph Patrick O'Brien, trainer, that Vultan would have to be recertified before being declared to run from stalls again.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Baby Zeus trained by W.P. Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
J.A. Powell, rider of Mirann (FR) trained by J.P. Murtagh, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left in the straight.
Hollie Doyle, rider of Baby Zeus trained by W.P. Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that her mount hung badly left.
