Dundalk's winning-most horse Togoville narrowly failed to become the first horse to win 12 races at the track this evening as he was thwarted by Major Power the head winner of the Love Your Mum At The Races Handicap,
Togoville's 11th win at the Co Louth racecourse was gained on March 8 and today over seven furlongs, came up a head short as Major Power himself completed a hat-trick of recent course and distance wins and provide his jockey Shane Cross with a double on the day.
Following the race winning trainer Eddie Lynam said “when he was younger we thought a bit of him but it didn’t work out and we’ve used him as a lead horse at home. When the winter programme was on we said we’d run him up here and he’s found a new lease of life. He’s had a wind op and he just keeps doing it.
“He seems to like this place. Every time he runs you think the handicapper has him this time but in fairness he keeps pulling out a bit more. He was game again today.
“Togoville is very good here and he was coming late and wide, and I thought the fact that we wouldn’t really get to see him he might nab us but thankfully the post came in time for us.
“We don’t do much with him at home. He leads the string around doing his canters and we keep him nice and fresh. He was bouncing going out there today.
“He’s carrying loads of condition and he’s nice and happy, so we’ll just keep doing what we’re doing.
“I think there is a handicap for him on April 4, so he won’t know himself not having a run here for about five weeks!
“He’s never ran well on the turf but we’ll have to give him a try.”
