The front three in the market dominated the finish of the Elusive Pimpernel Median Auction Maiden, and it was odds-on favourite Hat Alnasar that got home in front in the seven furlong contest, under Conor Hoban, at Dundalk.
A steward's enquiry was called after Maronella had to switch around Hat Alnasar, to deliver his closing bid, but herself and Unchanged were a length and a quarter and a head off the winner at the line.
It wasn't any surprise to hear the no alteration verdict delivered, to confirm the all-the-way success of the Michael Halford-trained Hat Alnasar.
"He did it well and he really enjoys the surface. After his last two runs he was entitled to that," said Hoban.
"He appreciated the step up in trip. He has a lovely action and is one to look forward to. He had the experience and made most (of the running)."
The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Hat Alnasar, ridden by C.P. Hoban, winner and Maronella, ridden by D.P. Linehan, placed second, where it appeared Maronella suffered slight interference.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned, and from J.P. Murtagh, trainer and master of D.P. Linehan. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that while some interference did occur, they could not be satisfied that the winner had improved it's finishing position in relation to the second as a result of the interference, and so they made no alteration to the judges' placings and took no further action.
G.J. Phillips, rider of Ravenmad Sam trained by Garvan Donnelly, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount's saddle slipped on leaving the back straight.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Ravenmad Sam, trained by Garvan Donnelly, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be Post Race Normal.
