An absence of 380 days was no hindrance to Good Tradition who justified odds-on favouritism in the mile and six race that concluded three days of racing in Killarney.
It was a marked step up in trip from the extended mile and one maiden he won at Gowran Park in April last year.
The four-year-old gelding raced in rear of the five runners before taking closer order in third with three and a half furlongs to negotiate.
He was brought to challenge Neverushacon at the two marker and took over with a furlong and a half left. In the final furlong the 4/5 shot stayed on well to score by six lengths.
Neverushacon (9/2) held on to second from Tigris River
Dermot Weld was represented by his son and assistant trainer Kris Weld who said: "Pat was happy he got the distance. That was the concern beforehand. He's been off for a year and would like a bit of nicer ground. It's a bit gluey.
"He's still very lightly raced and learning his trade. We'll try to find something similar."
