A wall of horses held chances at the penultimate flight in the first of the two and a half mile handicap hurdles at Gowran Park, but it was Good Time Jonny who powered away on the run-in.
Peter Carberry asked the narrow leader for more after two out and his charge responded generously.
The 6/4 favourite increased his advantage over Rich Belief (18/1) at the last and was pushed out to draw clear by five lengths. Friary Rock in the first-time visor, was gambled on from a morning price of 33/1 down to 7/1 on the off but had to settle for third, a head behind Rich Belief.
Trainer Tony Martin said: “He’d a good run in Listowel and obviously learned a lot from it. He’s still a relatively young horse in a handicap.
“The jockey was very good on him and was able to get plenty of light even though he went the inner. It worked out well and good people own him.
“He’s entered again tomorrow (in a three mile handicap hurdle at this track) and we’ll see how he is in the morning. It’s an option.”
The Stewards interviewed Ms. Denise McCourt, Authorised representative for T.G.McCourt, trainer, concerning the behaviour of Dollar Value (USA), who refused to race. Ms. McCourt confirmed the animals previous poor record in this regard and outlined the steps taken by the trainer to address this. Having considered the evidence and the fact that this was the horses third occasion to refuse to race, the Stewards, in accordance with the provisions of Rule 14 (iii), suspended the horse for 30 days.
