Not for the first time, trainer Jonathan Sweeney sent out a well backed debutant to land a gamble when newcomer Glannagaullitehous won the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Mares INH Flat Race at Tramore.
A half-sister to one of the stables smarter bumper mares in recent years, the five-year-old was supported from 2/1 into 8/11f.
Held up at the back of the seven runner field for most of the race, content to watch on as Broomfield Gale took them along, jockey Adam Ryan went third on the inside rail after 3f out.
Coming through to dispute 2f out, the eventual winner led at the furlong pole, going on to a two-and-quarter length success.
Jonathan Sweeney said: "We bred her as well and it makes it all the sweeter. That's the second recent winner that we bred ourselves after Barnahash Primrose. My father and father in law looked after the dam for a long time. We'd have five broodmares and we'd be breeding away out of them. These are the first of them coming through now.
"We fancied her today. I was hoping to go to Wexford with her a couple of weeks ago but the other mare (Divaboriva) got in even though I thought she'd get balloted. It worked out fine anyway as the two of them won.
"My mothers people came from up above where I have my yard. It was up high and the house that was there was known as the lighthouse, so that's the connection. I called the dam Glannagaul as that's the address where the yard is.
"We will take today for today and I wouldn't like to be running her on quick ground. She handles soft well and jumps really well. She is well schooled and jumps a hurdle and a fence. She had the option of going for a point-to-point but she is in the bonus scheme and there was good prizemoney here.
"The lads have her leased and I worked with them from 2001 to 2010. I worked with them for Pat Mulcair. They are sound lads and I'm delighted for them."
