Gem completes Ballydoyle's double
Aidan O'Brien and Johnny Murtagh doubled their score for the session at the Curragh when in race three, the Listed Lanwades & Staffordstown Studs Stakes, Gemstone added to the earlier Ballydoyle gains with Petronius Maximus as the Galileo filly made virtually all in the juvenile fillies mile.
The 7/1 shot saw off the coming-home-well Rising Wind by a length with the favourite Hurricane Havoc having to settle for the third spot.
O'Brien said: "That's a nice win to get for a Galileo filly – he is an unbelievable stallion. They don't know when to give up and she is tough and genuine.
"She won her maiden in Limerick and then disappointed before running well the last day. She is finished for the season now. She'll step-up in trip now over a mile and a quarter plus."
The Master of Ballydoyle also outlined plans for some of his leading horses with impressive Leopardstown winner Await The Dawn now Champion Stakes bound. O'Brien said: "we've been very happy with him since Leopardstown."
He also explained that: "Rip Van Winkle could go for the mile or the classic at the Breeders Cup. Fame And Glory could go for the mile and a half turf there whilst Bright Horizon would be a contender for the marathon.
"Together could be one for the fillies grass."
