After three winning favourites to open the card, bookmakers got some relief when Peter McCreery's Brewel Hill (9/2) was an all-the-way winner of the Tote Guarantee Available On-Course Handicap.
Shane Foley got his fractions spot on in the extended nine-furlong contest as his mount found in the final furlong to beat Sirjack Thomas (5/1) by three-parts of a length.
This was Brewel Hill's third career success to follow on from the Curragh (in August last year) and Gowran Park (July 2022).
It brought up a double for Foley who also scored on Jessica Harrington's Presence (2/1f).
He said: "I thought it was going to pan out for us, there was no pace in it and he's a horse that just about gets that trip.
"Usually here you have to run to the bend, but he only had to run for 50 yards and I was able to sit and get a breather into him.
"I was getting it easy in front and, around here, when you get to sit up around to the two and a half (furlongs out), I knew it was going to take a fair one to get by me because he's very genuine.
"His Curragh run was good and he'd a lovely run his first run back in Limerick, he just got a little bit tired. There's one or two (races) in him every year, he struggles when he goes up the ratings a bit, when he drops him it's the other way around."
