Farren Glory runner-up to Inthepocket at Wexford last month, went one better on his second start over fences when landing the odds in the Mongey Communications Beginners Chase at Naas.

The Fame And Glory gelding, a Grade 1 winner over hurdles last season, made all in this two-mile event and despite hesitating at a few fences got well on top in the closing stages. Ho My Lord mounted a challenge after two out but Farren Glory, who drifted in the betting on track from 2/7 to 4/6, galloped on strongly under Jack Kennedy on the run-in and drew clear to score by seven and a half lengths. Clonshire River was a further eight and a half lengths back in third.

Winning trainer Gordon Elliott said, “Jack said his best was from the last to the line.

“He didn't get pulled up until down below and its job done. We probably would have preferred a bit more competition.

“They didn't go quick, and he was looking around him. He said it was actually slippy and he slipped a bit and then was a bit careful.

“I'd imagine, with horses not getting out, he'll head straight on to the Drinmore now.

“In fairness he was better on that ground - Wexford was horrible ground.”
