Cruisin Susan (5/1) provided the Berry family with a winner at their local track when landing the second split of the three-mile handicap hurdle.

Trained by John Berry for his wife Anna and ridden by their son John, the seven-year-old had finished second to wide-margin winner Kilashee at Kilbeggan on her previous start.

Kept towards the outer throughout, the winner moved into contention on the final circuit and led two out before staying on well to beat Derby De Thaix by six and a half lengths.

The winning trainer said: "The last day she was just beaten by a better handicapper. We were afraid that she mightn't stay the trip today but the better ground helped her.  She's won two now and maybe she'll be lucky and win another one.

"We might try and win a chase with her but she has her limitations. She is for the young lad to tip away on, really. She is a consistent little thing and she wasn't getting into the right races as she isn't fast enough for two miles. There is a race over two-and-a-half for her at Tramore and she might go there next week."
