Domesday Book got off the mark on his second start over fences as he ran out an easy winner of the Cube Beginners Chase.

Having finished a good third on his debut over fences, the Henry De Bromhead trained gelding was sent off the even money favourite (7/4 last night) today with Andrew Lynch in the saddle.

Settled in second he improved to dispute from six out and led after the next. He stretched clear from the second last and came home thirteen lengths too the good in the colours of Roger Brookhouse. Chatham House Rule (3/1) finished second under Kevin Sexton for Gordon Elliott while Rolly Baby (3/1) was a further eight and a half lengths back in third.

Andrew Lynch said afterwards: "He is a chaser and is a better jumper than he showed today and today was just about getting around.

"He'll get further but after the last day we said we'd try and win our beginners chase over two miles.

"He can be lairy in front but hopefully can go on to better things now."

STEWARDS REPORT

The Stewards interviewed Mr.P.F.Graffin, Starter, having started this race less than one minute before the official race time. Evidence was heard from Mr.Graffin, who stated that he had difficulty with the loud speaker equipment, which was malfunctioning prior to this race. In the end he had to start this race without the speaker and having been distracted, he inadvertently started the race slightly early. In conclusion, the starter apologised and accepted full responsibility, having done the pre race check with the clerk of the course. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards referred Mr. Graffin to the Chief Executuive of the turf club for further investigation.

Subsequently, the Stewards interviewed Mr. T.V.O.'Connell, clerk of the course, who stated that he carried out the pre race check with the starter, prior to this race. The Stewards accepted his explanation offered. .
