It’s coming on two years since Luke Dempsey won the Galway Plate for the Cullentra team on the subsequently ill-fated Borice. Now under the stewardship of Denise Foster of course, the County Meath-based training operation landed this evening’s opener at Kilbeggan with the Dempsey-partnered Wicklow Flyer
Here the Kildare rider was quickly following up from a 50/1 victory on Andrew Kinirons’ Hidden Land from Downpatrick on Tuesday, in this KilbegganRaces.com Maiden Hurdle.
Sixth on her bumper debut 52 days back, the Pioneer Racing-owned Wicklow Flyer came forward nicely to easily beat 13/8 favourite Nevendon by sixteen lengths. This was despite the fact that the 6/1 victor made a slight mistake at the final flight.
Stable representative Ian Amond said:- “She won well, it was probably an ordinary race but all she could do was win.
“Luke said she didn't do a tap when she got to the front and she had a guess at the last but she won well.
“I'd imagine she'll be kept on the go.”
Winning connections also had Breffni Brave in action in this two and a half miler. He finished fourth under Denis O’Regan.
The Foster team were completing an across the card double after the win of Swordsman under Jordan Gainford at Killarney earlier.
