Spyglass Hill and Hugh Morgan made amends for an unlucky exit at Aintree last time when landing the €40,000 Tim Duggan Memorial Handicap Chase at Limerick.
The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding was leading when Morgan was unseated at the canal turn in the Grand Sefton last month but connections gained ample compensation here at odds of 12/1.
The eight-year-old was prominent throughout in this near 2m4f event and after holding a few lengths advantage at the final fence, was driven right out to hold off Rebel Gold by a diminishing half-a-length. Dinny Lacey tried to mount a challenge at the second last but ultimately had to settle for third spot a further length-and-a-half behind.
Morgan said, “"I'm delighted for Niall (O’Leary, owner) for sticking with me as we were unlucky in the Grand Sefton Chase when we went at the Canal Turn. I was sick because I felt we were still travelling but he was class there today.
"He was electric and when the other horses came to him he went on again.
"He ran well in the Munster National and slower ground helped him today. I'm delighted with that and it is a big pot to win."
