Definite Knockoff showed the benefit of a recent outing at Gowran Park when taking the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle under Conor Maxwell.

Trained near Enniscorthy by Sean Doyle for his brother Donnchadh, the six-year-old gelding took it up before the last to record a convincing victory.

The 11/2 chance stayed on well on the run-in to beat Good Decision (6/1) by five and a half lengths, with Blue Ridge Lane (10/1) keeping on one paced another six lengths adrift in third. Rock County (12/1) completed the placings in fourth, while the gambled-on Dr Tommy (14/1 in the morning and backed from 9/1 into 5/1 favourite on track) dropped away tamely after a mistake 4 out and was pulled up before the next.

Sean Doyle said, “He loves good ground, and we’ll aim him at the handicap hurdle in Galway that we won last year with Get In There. That’s been our plan since early in the year.

“I have three in at the moment but point-to-points is our main thing.”
