Cosmic Symbol left a Listowel effort from five days back well behind to return to his best as the 20/1 victor of the James P. Cunningham Electrical Handicap at Galway.
County Clare native Dylan Hogan was aboard this George Webb runner. This was a 19th winner, and an 11th of the year for the Kevin Prendergast employee.
Cosmic Symbol has given his handler, and owners, the Lios Dearg Rangers Partnership, plenty of enjoyment this summer, here winning his fourth race since June.
Up the inside in the straight he proved too tough an opponent for Happy Company and Keep Believing and he had half a length and two and a quarter lengths in hand at the finish.
It seemed that Gowran winner from Saturday, Lucky Mistake was awkward out of the gates, and himself and Danny Sheehy parted company in the opening yards.
Paddy Power were one of the bookmakers to act in the aftermath. They refunded singles (no maximum) as a free bet on Lucky Mistake as a justice refund.
The Stewards requested a report from G. Webb, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Cosmic Symbol, placed first, as compared with its recent form.
Gerry Murray on behalf of G. Webb reported that this gelding missed the break at Listowel and from thereon he never let himself down on the deep underfoot conditions.
The run was most disappointing but a post race examination at home failed to find any abnormality.
Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
Furthermore the Stewards fined G. Webb €130 for failing to lodge the appropriate authorisation form appointing Gerry Murray as his representative.
D.E. Sheehy, rider of Lucky Mistake, trained by Adrian Paul Keatley, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount reared up when the stalls opened, jumped sideways, put down her head and gave him no chance of staying in the saddle.
