Cooper has a sweet winner on Quiet Thought

Wed 24th Aug 2011, 19:06

There was no hiding place in the www.mosscontrol.ie Mares Beginners Chase at Killarney and some of the runners struggled with the pace set by Ciaras Lady but the Bryan Cooper-ridden chase debutant Quiet Thought was in her element and she eventually sluiced up by eighteen lengths for trainer Dessie Hughes.

The victorious Bob Back mare took up the running three out from the aforementioned pace-setter and it was all plain sailing from the next as she went on to beat the well-backed Sox's Girl

Cooper said: "She never missed a fence. You either take to fences or you don't and she has always jumped well at home."

Cooper will have derived obvious satisfaction from this success given that Killarney is barely a 20-minute drive from Lisardboula, Tralee where he grew up and where his father Tom still trains.

He has described his win on Bruach Na Mara at Killarney in May of last year, when still claiming 7Ibs, as one of his most memorable yet.

Of course it is easy to forget that Cooper's first winner wasn't that very long ago at all – Rossdara for his father Tom at Clonmel in October 2009.
