Alpha Centauri's sister Discoveries beat Minding's sibling Tuesday to win the blue-blooded Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at the Curragh today, scoring for trainer Jessica Harrington, jockey Shane Foley and the Niarchos Family.
Once-raced Discoveries held a narrow advantage over Ballydoyle's debutante Tuesday throughout the final furlong and at the line was all-out for a short-head win.
Discoveries is a sister to her trainer's Alpha Centauri, a four-time Group 1 winner, and the yard's Coronation Stakes winner Alpine Star while, similarly, Tuesday is a sister to Minding, a seven-time Group 1 winner, and this year's Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Empress Josephine.
Today's maiden also featured Derby runner-up Madhmoon's sister Alaroos which finished sixth, and Classic winner Dawn Approach's sister Hymn Book Two, which was 13th.
Following the race trainer Harrington stated “she is keeping the family tradition going and is still very green; being in front for so long probably didn’t suit her.
“Shane felt she would be much better in a better race where they could take her along. She’s very leery and looking at everything — a lot more than her other siblings.
“She improved a lot from the first run to this race and will improve again. The Debutante and the Moyglare are two races we have in mind for her.”
