Caspian Prince blazed a trail in the Listed Mercury Stakes at Dundalk and broke the track record as he flashed past the post.
The seven-year-old gelding broke very smartly to lead and had the opposition off the bridle in the home straight.
He was ridden by Declan McDonogh a furlong and a half out and kept going all the way to the line to see off the fast-finishing Moviesta who thundered home down the outer.
There was a head between the 6/1 raider and the 9/1 runner-up. Medicean Man (12/1) took third, half a length further back.
Declan McDonogh said: “He’s a fast one - for a Dylan Thomas!”
“It was straightforward. He said to just let him roll along and he actually found plenty.
“I said beforehand that it looks like he’s staying his races better than he was a couple of years ago - it’s obviously my first ride on him.
“He saw it out well because I went a good one and he kept finding plenty.
“I think he goes to Dubai so hopefully I can keep the ride on him. He’d be a nice ride at the carnival.”
Caspian Prince set a new track record with a time of 57.10. It was previously held by Balmont Mast - 57.35 on 26th October 2012.
The in-form sprinter was winning for the third time in a row. This was his second start for trainer Roger Fell who is based in North Yorkshire.
