Carberry seen to good effect
The Christmas Cracker Handicap Hurdle was won by the Tony Martin trained Newbay Prop ridden by Paul Carberry and owned by William Moffett. The winner was a drifter in the ring opened up at 7/4 and was returned the 3/1 favourite.
Carberry raced his mount in rear of mid-division, took closer order approaching straight, hard ridden approaching two and kept on well to lead close home holding off the gambled on Christy Roche trained Line Ball (6/1 ? 100/30).
Martin said afterwards, "The race worked out lucky enough in the end. We will probably bypass Christmas. There is a lovely race in Warwick in January coming up over 3m 5f that we might go for or maybe The Thyestes in Gowran Park at the end of January."
