After a terrific Thursday with successes for Red Linn (50/1, Leopardstown) and Excelcius (14/1, Killarney) Tom Mullins kept up the momentum as his 6/4 shot Canford Light did the business at Kilbeggan.
In this second split of the Coola Maiden Hurdle, market supremacy just went to Mind Your Money (11/8) for Henry de Bromhead and Hugh Morgan.
However the Jack Foley-ridden Canford Light got the better of the favourite by six lengths.
“I tried the Flat with him but he just rejected it on his last run in Gowran. We put him over hurdles and he took to it like a duck to water in Punchestown where he was second,” said Mullins.
“That was a great run and we just bided our time to make sure he was right for the next day and this was the next day.
“He jumped very well today, improved in his jumping. He could go to Galway but he's also in the sales at Doncaster.
“He's a good four-year-old horse, a summer type of horse but he could run away up until Christmas.
“I might give him a try back on the Flat if I see a race that suits him.
“He had issues as a two and three-year-old but we fixed them.
“Jack was very tactically aware on him there. He's not really a 7lb claimer anymore, he really rode well today and used his head. He let the boys at it and came at them on the last bend.”
At the request of the Stewards, Mr A. Harvey, rider of Knockiel Synge trained by D.Harvey, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped off at the back of the field in this race in order to settle, as he has run keen previously in point to points. He jumped off well however found the pace too sharp and got detached from the field. Mr. A. Harvey reported that his mount got into a better rhythm in the final circuit but got pushed into a pocket. He pushed him along about three furlongs from home, however his race was run. Mr. A. Harvey added that he felt his mount needs a step up in trip and found today's distance too sharp.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that Sevvy Christiano trained by Patrick G.Kelly had a blood stained nasal discharge.
D.J. McInerney, rider of Ranger P trained by Sabrina J. Harty, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount jumped poorly.
