Camlann sprang a 16/1 surprise in the Racing Again Friday 11th May Beginners Chase, scoring under Danny Mullins for John 'Shark' Hanlon.

A four time winner over flights, the seven-year-old son of Cape Cross was making his debut over fences this evening, returning to action for the first time since October.

Market rivals Gangster and Kagney took each other on in front, with Mullins settling Camlann in a distant third.

He looked a spent force in a moderate fifth from three out, however he really got going when ridden before the last, sweeping through to lead on the run-in, going on to score by two and a half lengths.

The front-running Kagney (3/1) couldn't fend off the winner when challenged, and he had to settle for second under Sean Flanagan for Noel Meade. Inis Meain (14/1) completed the placings another seven lengths back in third under Denis Hogan, while the 5/4 favourite Gangster faded tamely from before the last, eventually finishing a disappointing fifth.

Hanlon, who lasted tasted success on the track with Rare Legend in November, said afterwards: "They cut each other's throats in front and Danny sat to get him home.

"He said going down the back they were gone a million. He's a 126 horse over hurdles and is very consistent. He jumped brilliantly and he looks a novice chaser for the summer.

"I wanted that winner as we’ve had a horrible run. We've had point-to-point winners but nothing on the track for a good while."
