Philip Enright returned from injury with a winner at Wexford today as Ireland's busiest jockey of the 2019/20 season steered Knock Na Rea to win the ESET Ireland (Mares) Handicap Hurdle (division II) at Wexford.
Enright ended the 2019/20 season with a career-best 37 wins from 481 rides, the most by a jockey that season, and was also busiest with 469 rides in 2020/21 until fracturing his ankle in a fall from Lean Araig at Naas on March 14.
Successful in the Grade 2 Galmoy Hurdle last February, Enright returned to action yesterday at Tipperary and today, on his seventh ride back with two further upcoming, steered nine year old mare Knock Na Rea to win for trainer John Joe Walsh.
The daughter of Stowaway was recording her second career win and afterwards trainer Walsh stated “she loves that ground and it was a big help to her. We will see what the handicapper gives her, she will probably go for more of the same."
“She was owned and bred by the late Liam Healy long ago and is now owned by Gerald Gormley from Ballymote, Co Sligo.”
