Jack The Wire came good on earlier promise to win the Ladbrokes Mobile Maiden Hurdle for trainer/rider Denis Hogan at Galway. Rogue Agent went off an uneasy favourite at 5/2 as the money came on track for Timing'severything (13/2 into 4/1). Black Ace (the nicely supported 3/1 second favourite) was the one that gave the always up there Jack The Wire most to do, but he couldn't reel him back in the straight and three and a quarter lengths split them at the line.
Rogue Agent was one paced from before the straight and ended up in fifth place. Meanwhile Timing'severything finished third.
Hogan stated: "Anything he does over hurdles is a bonus, it's all about chasing with this horse. We took our time with him over the winter, the ground was very heavy when he ran in a few beginners (chases). I had Galway in the back of my head and I thought maybe we could find a handier maiden hurdle, my family own him and they'd have a day out.
"It's great for my parents. They provided me with a place to train, and I couldn't do any of it without them. They've backed me the whole way.
"I rode him in Tipperary over two miles four and he possibly needed the run a bit there, he didn't see it out. I just thought a strong two miles and send him out early, that was my plan since Tipp, go to Galway and send him on down the hill.
"He is very genuine, and I can't knock Scorpion (the sire) like other people do. I think he is going to have a lot of winners yet, and I don't think we've seen the best of this horse yet. Anything he does over hurdles is a bonus; he is a chaser down the line and I hope there is a good handicap in him."
