Brulure Noire recorded a 40/1 shock when relishing the testing conditions at Limerick to take the Geary’s Garage Kilmeedy Maiden Hurdle for Shark Hanlon and Jody McGarvey.
The four-year-old son of Califet had shown little in three previous outings under rules but the heavy ground here proved right up his street.
He made headway from off the pace to challenge in the straight, leading on the run-in under McGarvey to beat the reserve Barefoot Man (22/1) by half-a-length. Huntingtown could find no extra in the closing stages finishing a further five and a half lengths adrift in third.
Hanlon said, “He needs soft ground and Jody said he needs to be going to his knees in it. He travelled everywhere for him.
“He works at home like a very good horse. Tom Hamilton rode him in a bumper one day (at Thurles) and turning in I thought he’d win but they quickened and he couldn’t on good ground.”
