Blairmayne got his season off to the best possible start and in the process opened up new opportunities when successful over the minimum trip in the Caragh Nurseries Handicap at Naas.
The five-year-old gelding won twice (six and seven furlongs) under Kieren Fallon at Fairyhouse in 2016 but failed to add to that tally in seven outings last year.
However he was well supported here, 11/2 into 4/1 joint favourite on track, and showed good speed throughout before staying on well inside the final furlong to score by three quarters of a length.
Fellow joint favourite Rattling Jewel too the runner-up spot, with the pace-setting Doonard Prince just a head further back in third.
Successful Co. Down trainer Natalia Lupini said, “We weren’t surprised as he was working very well at home and Shane Foley thought in his work that he was quicker than last year. We came here with a good chance and the plan worked out alright.
“Hopefully we can have a good season with him. That win gives us plenty of options with him as last year the five furlongs seemed to be a bit short for him.”
