Baily Dusk produced a fine front running performance to run out a cosy winner of the concluding three-mile handicap chase at Clonmel.

Ben Dalton sent the 25/1 shot to the front at the second fence and he made the best of his way home from there.

The Mouse Morris-trained gelding had his rivals at work on the home turn and he stuck on well when asked for an effort early in the straight.

Dalton could afford to coast home on the run-in to record a four-and-a-half length win over Thelobstercatcher

The winner hadn’t shown a lot since winning at Cork maiden hurdle in March 2011 and was a well-beaten eighth on his last start at Punchestown a fortnight ago.

“He was a promising horse at one stage but has had so many problems,” said Morris.

“He completely lost the plot and in fairness to the owner he gave him every chance.

“Gerry Kelly, the surgeon who operated on him for his wind, also deserves credit.” Western Star was the 11/2 favourite in an open looking contest but could only finish sixth.
