Sheila Lavery saddled her second winner of this year's Galway Festival as Ibergman took the spoils in the seven furlong maiden.
The 8/1 chance was settled in fourth by Ronan Whelan as Unyielding set a blistering pace from Valac and B Cosmos in third.
B Cosmos came to tackle Unyielding inside the two pole as Ibergman moved into third on the rail. Ibergman was switched out in the home straight and was ridden by Whelan to pick off B Cosmos and Unyielding in the closing stages. He got up by a length.
B Cosmos took second at 14/1. He was a length in front of Unyielding (3/1).
"If I knew how to do my job she most probably would have won before! I think I have been running her on ground that was a wee bit too fast. I think a few of my horses just needed a bit of cut in the ground. She's a lovely-actioned filly. We've always liked her and I'm delighted to give Ronan a winner now," Sheila Lavery said.
"Pat (Smullen) was second on her the last time and he said he thought a little bit of ease in the ground would suit her so I just waited for Galway as I was chasing a bit of ease in the ground. I have to thank Pat Smullen. She's a bit sharp and can be tricky at home. Robbie Colgan rides for me every day and he has done a wonderful job with her. She can be hot but she races very professionally. She puts everything in.
"A lot of my horses have been getting bad draws and I'd like to thank Eddie Lynam for his advice. He said don't try to beat your draw and just ride your race."
Lavery prevailed with Romiac at 16/1 in yesterday's seven furlong handicap.
The Stewards interviewed W.J. Lee, rider of B Cosmos, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f), in that he used the whip with excessive force and frequency and having considered his record, suspended him for one race day.
