Anna the Girl in Navan's opener
My Girl Anna was one of the first market movers of the day when an early offer of 12/1 quickly disappeared about her for the opening Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap at Navan and she duly delivered under Mark Enright.
Returned at 7/1, the successful daughter of Orpen was turning out again quickly after finishing fifth behind the impressive Balmont Mast on the all-weather at Dundalk on Friday night.
Enright, riding his sixth winner of the campaign and his ninth in total, got the Murdeach Kelly-trained and Sergio Artico-owned four-year-old to the front under a furlong out and she kept on well to keep Jedward at bay by half a length.
Kelly trains My Girl Anna in Ballinasloe and he previously despatched her to Kempton to pick up her maiden on the all-weather at Kempton in September 2010.
The Stewards interviewed R.A. Doyle rider of Just For Mary GB), unplaced concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that R.A. Doyle was in breach of R10(2)(b), the continued hitting of a horse after his chance is clearly gone and R10(2)(a), using the whip down the shoulder in the forehand position. The Stewards suspended R.A. Doyle for 2 racedays and advised him to familiarise himself with the content of R10. Mr M.J. Grassick accompanied R.A. Doyle at this enquiry.
