A Tipp For Gold followed in the hoofprints of opening race winner Born In Purple as he too made all in the Connolly's Red Mills Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle.
Bought for E25,000 at the Goffs Land Rover Sale in June of 2022, the Westerner bay was placed twice from four bumper starts, finishing a solid fourth on his debut over flights at Ballinrobe last month.
That Ballinrobe effort was over an extended two mile six furlong trip, and back down to the minimum this afternoon, he was sent to post a well-supported 15/8 favourite (from 5/2 on-course).
Trained by Mags Mullins and ridden by her son Danny, the five-year-old upped the tempo on the approach to the penultimate flight and ridden away from there, he found plenty, eventually coming home three and three quarters of a length to the good.
On what was his racecourse debut, De Temps En Temps (5/1) finished an encouraging second under Keith Donoghue for Gavin Cromwell, while Herbies Rover (11/1), who blundered at the last, was another two lengths away in third.
"It is a lovely win, he is a grand horse and I like him. He had winter form and had a lovely run the last day, where he jumped around lovely," the winning trainer commented.
"I'm charmed with him and we'll see what he's like when he gets home and decide where we go. He is an improving horse as I felt he wasn't fully 'there' either today and think he will come on again.
"Willie (Mullins) had no runner and Danny wanted to ride him, which is always a plus."
