Following on from a win at the venue yesterday on Wild Desire, Kevin Brouder doubled up at Gowran this afternoon on Wonderoftheworld in the Paulstown Handicap Chase.
Earlier on the mark for Terence O’Brien on Leahman here Brouder did the steering on Wonderoftheworld for Keith Clarke.
Clarke was training his first winner for owner Barry Connell, since recently taking over the handling of the former stockbroker and amateur rider’s string.
This 8/1 scorer battled it out from the third last with Graineyhill
The outcome was still in the balance when Graineyhill fell at the last leaving Wonderoftheworld to secure an eight length verdict over Freewheelin Dylan
Brouder is of course chasing Darragh O’Keeffe at the top of the claiming professionals table. O’Keeffe is on 40 winners, Brouder is now on 26.
“The last race he won was in Kilbeggan and it rained all day. He hasn’t got his conditions and has been running on summer tracks in beginners chases and there is no three-mile races," said Connell.
“I don’t know would he have won (if Graineyhill had stood up at the last) but it’s nice to get on the board there.
“He’s been very consistent. He wants a galloping track and a good test of jumping. He gave him a lovely ride and it worked out great.
“We’d have to think about the Cork National. He jumps and gallops, is not the quickest in the world, and something like that might suit him.”
