He impeded well-backed favourite Financial Conduct (4th) when edging to his right inside the final quarter mile, but after surviving a steward's enquiry Bid Adieu s jockey Colin Keane was able to click the scoreboard up to 96 for the campaign, after victory in the www.dundalkstadium.com Maiden.
Keane was doubling his score for the evening after his earlier success on Overcoming and on his second run for trainer Tom Cooper, Bid Adieu prevailed from the front under the champion elect, beating Clear Skies by a length and a quarter.
Pat Smullen is now nine behind Colin Keane who ticks along ever closer to that magic figure of 100.
"He was too keen but he got away with it. We made our minds up that there was no point holding on to him today and let him bowl away," said Cooper.
"He took a tug for an awful long way and I didn't think he'd get home. He must be a fair tool.
"You could see where he went before he could pull him up. He couldn't pull him up.
"He had a look out of greenness but it's only his third run. He was bought to go jumping. Mr Brooks owns him and he'll more than likely go back to England now.
"I've my job done — but you never know I might hold on to him! I'm doing a lot of pre-training for him and picking up horses here and there.
"He jumps super and I'd say a hurdle might just knock him back. He'll be a grand dual purpose horse."
The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Bid Adieu, ridden by C.T. Keane, placed first, Financial Conduct, ridden by S. Foley, placed fourth and Clear Skies (GB), ridden by P.B. Beggy, placed third.
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned.
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge's placings and took no further action.
