We’ll take it! We’ll never know what would have happened, but he jumped well. He won this race last year and a small field is probably ideal for him and he loves that ground. Hopefully, that will be a confidence booster for him.

We'll take it! We'll never know what would have happened, but he jumped well. He won this race last year and a small field is probably ideal for him and he loves that ground. Hopefully, that will be a confidence booster for him. I suppose we'll look at the Irish National. He's also in the National Trial at Haydock, but that will probably come too soon for him as it's Saturday week. We'll see how he comes out of this, but he's very unlikely to go there. He's probably not terribly well handicapped, but at the same time you'd have to consider an Irish National.

that's a relief for a small yard like ours as Derek (Kierans) is our biggest spending owner but the two horses he has with me (Velvet Elvis and Hartur D'arc) had flop simultaneously this season. We had very high hopes for both at the start of the season and we've done all the tests going, but had no answers and you are scratching your head. It was a 100 percent recovery mission here and we're definitely on the way back which is good.

After race at Navan Sat, 12th Mar, 2022 (1st)
Winning trainer Tom Gibney, who also saddled the runner-up, said, .That was great. We're not a big stable and it was breaking my heart to have to run the two of them in the same race but conditions were absolutely made for both of them,. Initially I didn't think we'd be coming here with her but she just came out of the race so well I had to run her. If it didn't work out with one it might with the other. He's a lovely, a pleasure to do anything with and a class bit of stuff. It's great for me to get that for Derek as he's put more expensive horses into me than anybody. He spends the money and it's great to be able to get a result for men like that. We're not like the big lads so we need that.

After race at Thurles Mon, 15th Feb, 2021 (1st)
He is a very straightforward horse to do anything with and we thought conditions would really suit him. When I got here and Darragh told me the ground was terrible I was quite happy to hear that. I thought the trip might be a bit short for him but conditions nullified that.

Tt was great. He was an expensive purchase (£95,000) - he wasn't my purchase, he was bought by John (McConnell, for owner Derek Kierans) and there is a certain level of expectation when you shell out the dough and it is nice to get the win. It is tough going out there but he stays well and likes that ground. I ran him on good ground in Punchestown and he ran well although soft ground is more to his taste.
