It's the first time Paul has come in after a beginners chase saying that he wanted more jumps!. I've watched him schooling at home and he just loves it, it lights his fire. When he went out in front he was idling and the minute a horse came up behind him, or he saw a fence, he just took off. It's late in the season but we had to do something with him and we decided to give him a shot at going over fences. He's well able to handle the minimum trip, and he loves jumping, so I'd imagine that's the direction we'll go. When we bought him we didn't think of him as a novice chaser, he was a Flat/hurdle horse. He's just had training problems all along and the way the season has panned out we gave him a few pops over fences, a few weeks ago, and he just took to it like a duck to water. It was a bit of a surprise to us but we're delighted. I'd imagine he'll stay at home and we'll try to keep him sound. If we can keep him in that kind of form there are races to be picked up at home rather than travelling. I'm not sure he likes travelling either in his later years. He has been disappointing when we've brought him abroad.

It was a good performance and I suppose he was entitled to do that. It was always going to be a competitive race but the fitness edge was a help to him. He was a bit fiddly at the second last but three strides later he picked up again. He’s shown a good spark and hopefully he can go on. He once promised to be a real good horse and hopefully he can make steps back towards that.

It was fantastic for Patrick to get his third win, it's an extraordinary achievement for an amateur,. I'm very proud of him. I know he's kicking himself that he's not able to win the amateur handicap but no-one would swap one Connacht Hotel Handicap for three Galway Hurdles. It's a great testament to the handicapper that the topweights can win these big handicaps. We tried everything with this horse and the prize-money was the only lure that we came here. We needed to have a crack at it anyway. I put cheekpieces on him and it probably just concentrated his mind a little bit. Patrick thought he was travelling well at all stages. He just got into a few traffic problems around the second last and came out but once he got through he was happy enough. He travelled and jumped well. Patrick said he was very brave throughout the race, jumping wise. He just got an awful fright the day he fell in Naas as a four-year-old and I'd say it's taken him all that time to get over it. He's just never had the same confidence and never been the same horse. He's slowly, slowly coming back and then trying to run in Grade 1 races too is probably tough on him. Virginie Bascop who rides him out and led him up today has been huge for him as she's kept him sound all season. She deserves a lot of praise. Keeping him sound and right has been half the battle. I might go down the Flat route again with him.

We’ve always liked Saldier but it was just whether he would come back from his injury. His nose was in bits but we decided not to have it operated on and let nature take its course. We had the same trouble with Briar Hill but operating on him didn’t work. His run in the Fishery Lane (upsides Espoir D'allen when falling at the last) showed us he could be Grade 1 material. He quickened up well at the last and won like a nice horse. Hopefully they will all improve. Klassical Dream threw himself at the first hurdle and then he was just too keen. I think he’ll improve from that, and a stronger gallop will help them all too. Patrick was never happy on Sharjah. I’d imagine he wanted the run badly and he’d want better ground. It has been a lucky race for us but not always with the first string but they are all there doing their best and that’s what happens.

He's a very good horse. His jumping let him down the last two runs but Robbie (Power) sorted that out today. He brushed up on his jumping and Robbie said he jumped fantastically today. I think all these could go to France, we haven't been hard on out four-year-olds this year. They have had a really easy time of it and it has paid off. He will stay hurdling next year. Punchestown is a lucky place for me!

that was a nice performance. He had a little setback at Christmas and we couldn’t run him but he’s always shown us that he’s half-decent and looks it on that evidence there. The loose horse (Tildas Icon) rammed him with a circuit to race and gave him every opportunity to run off the track and set him alight but he seemed to take it all in his stride. He jumped well throughout the race, and is a horse that we can look forward to. He’s in the Triumph Hurdle and looks like he could be good enough to take his place. We’ll see how he comes out of this race but he handled that ground well but better ground won’t inconvenience him.
