Country collects with fine front-running performance
The Willie McCreery-trained Mother Country stuck her head out in the closing stages to make all in the three-year-old handicap at Gowran Park. Wed 01st SepNaas doubles for McCreery & Lee
Trainer Willie McCreery and jockey Bill Lee combined for doubles at Naas today as Mother Country landed the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Maiden for Godolphin. Wed 23rd Jun

She won in Naas and then got no run really in Galway. It’s nice to get back into another three-year-old only handicap and she did it well from the front. She was nice and positive and will get a stiff seven or a mile. We’ll try and get some black type with her now. Billy thought she was idling in front and would love to get a lead with her again. She jumped so smartly that he wasn’t going to take her back and everything worked out.

I'm delighted with that and to get a winner for Godolphin is great and she's one of their homebred fillies. She's a grand big filly, she's only coming to herself and in fairness they've been very patient with me. I thought she ran a lovely race in Navan the last day when she probably didn't get home. Myself and Billy had a chat and we said we'd bring her back to the mile here and that suited. We'll take our time with her and she wouldn't mind an ease in the ground either. I wouldn't mind bringing her back to seven as she travelled very well there and I thought she idled in front.
