The Ted Walsh trained Buachaillbocht landed a gamble when easily accounting for the opposition in the Sherry Fitzgerald Sherry Rated Novice Chase at Fairyhouse.

Available at 40/1 in the morning, the J.P. McManus owned gelding was strongly supported right down to 7/2 at the off.

Wearing first time blinkers, the three-time winner over hurdles exploited a chase mark which was 9lb lower.

Travelling strongly throughout under Mark Walsh, Buachaillbocht arrived on the outside of the field to challenge Linden Arden and Dutch Schultz two out.

Pushed out to lead at the last fence, the seven-year-old went on to win easily by six-and-a-half lengths under the Gold Cup winning jockey.

Ted Walsh said: “He’s been a bit in and out over fences and is a bit of a monkey.

“We put blinkers on him today, Mark got a hold of him to get him up there and he was a different horse. It’s not to say he could do it every day, but he did it today anyway.

“I knew when he turned in bar he tipped up that he’d be hard to beat as he stays well.”
