Eddie Linehan enjoyed a red-letter day in his short riding career as he registered a first win aboard Shanghai Star at Sligo.
Sent off a 12-1 shot for the Sligo Claiming Race, the 16-year-old pushed his mount to the front inside the final furlong, eventually holding on by a short head from Fleeting Moment
Linehan, who claims 10lb and was scoring a victory for employer Willie Mullins, said: "That was my fourth racecourse ride and I rode 45 pony race winners on the southern pony racing circuit last year."< Guitar Man caused a 16-1 upset for trainer Paul Nolan and jockey Danny Mullins in the Cleveragh Handicap.
Taking it up inside the final furlong, Guitar Man had enough in the tank to hold 5-2 favourite Silent Decision by two and a half lengths.
Nolan said: "Guitar Man has been a bit disappointing at times and I told Danny not to be too quickly away and to get him into a rhythm & ndash; he gave him a super ride.
"He'll be penalised for this win and I've no immediate plans & ndash; he has run twice over hurdles but doesn't really see out two miles."
The Mick Flannery-trained Diyla made all under Fran Berry for a two-length success in the 6th August Ladies Day at Sligo Handicap.
Flannery said: "Diyla has run well here a few times and is ideal for these country tracks. We have the choice of going back over hurdles now and Fran gave her a great ride."< Stradbally (11-4 joint-favourite) struck for trainer Conor O'Dwyer in the Martinstown Opportunity Maiden Hurdle.
The trainer said: "Stradbally ideally wants two miles but there was no suitable race for him until July 13 at Killarney so we decided to take our chance here."< Charleville (9-2) shrugged off a slight mistake at the last to take top honours in the hands of Ian McCarthy in the Ballinode Opportunity Maiden Hurdle.
