Brosna wins battle of Queens to take Punchestown finale The Sonny Carey trained Brosna Queen stepped up on a promising debut effort over course and distance when winning the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Punchestown. Fifth at the festival here last month, the daughter of Getaway made the most of the weight concession from previous winner Atomic Queen to score by one-and-a-quarter lengths. Held up in rear, Patrick Mullins was pushing along on the 3/1 chance over three-furlongs out, as Amboyna took them along. Moving fifth entering the straight, Mullins soon went third, as the latter was pressed by Atomic Queen. Ridden to lead over 200 yards out, Brosna Queen stayed on best to beat Atomic Queen, with Kabylia back in third. Sonny Carey said: “I think she’s a good filly and she’s still green. “Michael Sharpe rides her at home and Garret Malone, they do a brilliant job on her because she’s not simple. “We might give her a break and bring her back for the Mucklemeg (at Gowran) or Cheltenham in November. We’ll try and get some black type with her as she has a very nice pedigree.” Additional reporting by Alan Magee.
