Yavana lands gutsy Longchamp win

Mark Johnston`s gritty nine-year-old Yavana`s Pace landed an impressive win in the Prix du Conseil de Paris at Longchamp today.

Darryll Holland went for home a long way out and steered the gelding to a brave half-length victory over Epitre, trained by Andre Fabre, in the Group Two event over a mile and a half.

A length away third was Foundation Spirit, trained by Francois Doumen.

The other British-trained runner, Boreas, from the Luca Cumani stable, was out of the frame.

After the race, winning trainer`s wife Deirdre Johnston said: 'We are planning to come back again next Sunday for the Prix Royal Oak (the French St Leger).'
