While he went close at Sligo with Sean Airgead who finished third to Ongenstown Lad Co Sligo based trained Mark McNiff, had better luck across the Irish Sea as his Streedagh Lady won the opener at Southwell this afternoon.
The point-to-point winning mare by Anshan lined up for the Mansfield Jobs Today.co.uk Handicap Chase over two miles and was sent off the 5/2 second favourite under Co Sligo rider, Derek Fox.
Having put in a decent effort on her last start at Carlisle in May when a length and three parts second, she managed to go one place better here. Winning by twelve lengths at the finish.
The only other Irish trained runner at Southwell was the Noel Kelly trained Buoy George who could only manage fifth in the Novices’ Selling Hurdle with Derek Fox again in the saddle.
Meanwhile at Perth, Gordon Elliott trained one winner from his seven runners, with three seconds and a third.
Brave Beauty (5/2) who won on her last start also at Perth scored again at the Scottish venue, winning the second race, the 2m 4f Novices Hurdle by five lengths under Jason Maguire.
Manger Hanagment, Fool's Wildcat and Incas Article all finished in the runner-up spot for Elliott while Steel Magnate was his third placed finisher.
