Trainer Jim Bolger and stable jockey Kevin Manning combined for doubles at Cork today as their stalwart Flight Risk easily landed the Listed Matchbook Straight Seven Platinum Stakes.
The gelded eight year old son of Teofilo was today scoring a second Listed win this year to add to his Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes success at Leopardstown in June and comfortably beat Black Magic Woman by two and a half lengths.
Bolger and Manning had earlier won the opening maiden with Arranmore and following the pair's latest success, travelling head man Ger Flynn revealed “the lads in the yard have been crying out trying to get Jim to go for the likes of the (Group 1) Prix de la Foret and now he probably deserves to as he has never been as sweet, but I don't know if he'll go or not.
“He is a proper proper tough horse. I don't think going right-handed over seven (furlongs) at the Curragh suited him the last day, behind Romanised, and the dead-straight seven suited today.
“Kevin got him so switched off today and on the straight track he got him out and it was all over in a matter of strides. His form was in the book and the boss has him sweet and Kevin has done a great job with him.
“Maybe he could run next at Champions Weekend at Leopardstown, where he loves."
He added "we were dying to get on the straight track here and Jim (Bolger) said it would suit our horses and he was bang-on and we've had two winners.”
