Since the day Big Generator came down at the last when still in with every chance in a point-to-point at Inch in April 2011, the chestnut has given his connections plenty of good days out. The half-brother to Grade 1 winner Aran Concerto gained career win number four today in the Pride Of Tipperary Launch Handicap Hurdle.
Robbie Power had his mount to the fore throughout and the 16/1 chance kept on well under pressure on the run-in to hold off Fethard Player and favourite Marshim (finished off well) by half a length and the same.
Winning trainer, Paul Nolan, in company with successful owner, Jim Mernagh, remarked: "Patience and perseverance paid off. He's a fun horse and Jim rides him out most days.
"He may go for a chase next – a handicap at Wexford (already a dual winner at his 'home' track)."
The Stewards requested a report from Paul Nolan, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Big Generator (GB), placed first, as compared with its recent form.
Paul Nolan reported that this gelding must be ridden with the pace but on his previous run at Killarney 11th May, rider C.M. Walsh missed the break having been instructed to make the running. He then rode a wide berth throughout and having failed to make any headway in the race he pulled up his mount at the last flight.
Today the required tactics were carried out and this brought about the significant improvement. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
