Weld newcomer easily wins L'town's last The Dermot Weld trained Sharliyna was an impressive winner of the concluding Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden at Leopardstown today, quickening smartly in the straight for a debut win under Pat Smullen. The Aga Khan owned and bred filly was a heavily backed 10/11 favourite and in the end proved three and a half lengths too strong for Truffles. Following the race, Weld stated “it wasn't the strongest of maidens but she did it nicely for her first start.I'd say she will be a progressive filly. "You won't see the best of her until next year. She is a big, strong filly and will make a lovely four-year-old." By Tom Weekes, quotes from Alan Magee
