The Friends Of Tipperary Race caused somewhat of a surprise when 9/2 shot Utrillo from the Aidan O’Brien stable defeated stable mate Encompassing who was returned as the 4/6 favourite under a fine ride by John Reid.
Utrillo supplied Reid with his first winner on the track this afternoon, the nineteen year old originally from Twopothouse near Mallow has been based with O’Brien for the last two years.
Reid was soon in front on the Encosta De Lago colt, the pair were briefly headed one furlong out but kept on well to lead close home for a one a quarter length win over Encompassing.
