Urtheoneiwant was aptly named as she became trainer John Byrne’s first winner since 1993 when taking the mares’ maiden hurdle in Ballinrobe.
The four-year-old filly was always in the front rank as she swapped the lead with Borussia before Davy Condon made his move and sent her on three out. Storm Away and Davy Russell travelled strongly in second, but a quick fluent jump at the last sealed victory for Urtheoneiwant who scored by six and a half lengths at 7/2.
Storm Away, the 11/10 favourite, could make no impression on the winner coming to the last and came home second.
John Byrne said: “I had a winner in 1993 with a mare in Kilbeggan called Miss Splendour. My father John won the Cambridgeshire in 1946 with a horse called Splendour. I’m from Ballymun and train in Meath now.
“I started with three horses two years ago and I bought two last year and one has turned out to be quite good! I always knew she had ability and I’ll try and keep her to her own bracket.
“She’s only a four-year-old, but I might be tempted to send her over fences.”
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Definite Response at the request of trainer, John Brassil, and reported the animal to have injured a left foreleg during the race. She was pulled up before three out.
