Another big crowd expected at Galway© Photo Healy Racing
The going is currently good for jump racing at Galway but that is all likely to change with a very unsettled weather forecast for later today and the possibility of up to 20mm of rain.
The ground, which was described as soft (National Hunt) and heavy (Flat) at the start of the week, has been steadily drying out over the the past few days and is officially good (NH) and good to yielding (Flat) this morning.
However, rain is expected to arrive at Ballybrit around 4pm today and will turn heavy overnight with the prospect of 15-20mm. The forecast is mainly dry for Saturday and Sunday.
The highlight on day five of the Festival is the €110,000 Guinness Handicap at 6.35, while there are two €80,000 races over jumps - the Guinness Galway Tribes Handicap Hurdle and the Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase.
The eight-race mixed card gets underway at 5pm.
