Tipperary Town Plate is all Funky Dady's Shane’s the name at Tipperary today, and winning is the game. After the Shane Fitzgerald 1,436/1 treble in the preceding races, Shane Mulcahy, another seven pound conditional, came to the fore on Funky Dady in the Tipperary Town Plate Handicap Chase. This contest went off seven minutes behind schedule with Kevin Brouder being attended to and removed to hospital after his horrible fall from Alpine Cobra in the 4.05 event. Brouder was reported to have sustained a suspected pelvic injury. Thankfully he was fully conscious and could move everything. The Kerry man was taken to hospital in Limerick. For the Final Reminder Syndicate and trainer Denis Hogan, Funky Dady came on from a Wexford third placing to get the better of Ya Boy Ya by four and a half lengths. Favourite Popong ended up fifteen lengths back in third, with well-backed Arthur’s Quay (9/2 from 7s ‘on the show, and bigger earlier), seven lengths behind in fourth. "I've won on him three times and have been placed numerous times and I knew the way the ground was cutting up today it would suit him,” reported Mulcahy. "I was a little worried about his jumping as he was novicey the last day but has come on no end from that run. He put in a super round of jumping. "Hopefully Galway could be a possibility, as long as all is well and good tomorrow and we can take it from there." (TW & EM)
