Timourid made all in the Slievenamon Maiden, scoring under Joe Doyle for Denis Hogan and the Galway Girl Syndicate.
Previously trained by Dermot Weld, the son of Gleneagles ran some good races in defeat last year and was sold to current connections for E18,500 at Goffs in February.
He unseated rider when tried over flights at Ballinrobe last month and back on the level today, he was sent off a 6/1 chance from early shows of 14/1.
Pressed by Yester from the two furlong pole, the bay victor responded well to pressure and pulled away inside the final furlong to score by three-and-a-quarter lengths. Stay Thinking (20/1) filled the runner-up spot, while Yester (4/6f) was a further three-and-a-half lengths back in third.
Doyle said in the aftermath: "He has been a grand horse, we've always liked him but getting his conditions has been a bit tricky. He got them today and won really nicely.
"I think he'll stay a bit further and the plan is for him to be dual purpose. I'm sure the boys will knock plenty fun out of him, they're great lads to be riding for."
STEWARDS REPORTS
The Stewards requested a report from Denis Gerard Hogan, trainer, as to the apparent improvement in form of Timourid, placed First, as compared with its recent run under the Rules of Racing at Roscommon on the 31st May. Ms Meghan Donovan, Authorised representative for the trainer, reported that Timourid was having his first run for the yard at Roscommon and had a wind surgery since then. She added that Timourid was also wearing blinkers for the first time today since joining their yard and furthermore that the front running riding tactics in a low standard race may have brought about the improved performance. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the content of the report.
David Peter Nagle, trainer of Yester, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that in his opinion his charge did not stay todays trip.
