Tilly Trotter shows her Dundalk quickstep Tilly Trotter confirmed her fondness for the polytrack in Dundalk when keeping on strongly in the opening juvenile race over five furlongs. Pat Smullen's mount ran freely towards the rear of the nine-runner field in the early stages. She closed on the leaders inside the final quarter of a mile and unleashed her challenge entering the final furlong. The Kodiac filly wore down Sammyjade in the final 100 yards and was ridden out to score by three parts of a length at 5/1. Miss Cogent ran on well for second at 10/1, a short head in front of third-placed Sammyjade (11/2). Pat Smullen said: "She's beginning to put it together and full credit to the boss as he was adamant that we took our time. "They have done a good job at home with her and she has a liking for this surface. She has a lot of speed and was a shade keen early." Tilly Trotter won a course and distance maiden for Dermot Weld and Smullen at the start of April. Her two subsequent runs saw her eased down to finish in rear of a Listed contest at Naas in May and then take third in a Naas nursery last month. Sammyjade had finished second in that nursery. Tilly Trotter is now two from two on the all-weather. Additional reporting by Alan Magee
