Dundalk takes centre stage in Ireland on Wednesday with a seven-race card that features three maidens and four handicaps.

The action kicks off at 14:17 and runs through to the finale at 17:17 and we have provided selections and analysis for three of the races on Wednesday’s card.

Selections

2.17 Dundalk - Red Evolution

3.17 Dundalk - Mister Adam

2.47 Dundalk - Eighty Eight

2.17 Dundalk - Red Evolution

The action kicks off with a maiden over the minimum distance and one that sets a very solid standard on form is Red Evolution.

This son of Mehmas attracted market support before running a huge race on his debut in a six-furlong Curragh maiden when beaten just half a length by Henri Matisse - a piece of form that has worked out very nicely.

He then showed that effort was no fluke when just touched off in a Navan maiden by another Ballydoyle representative.

He hasn’t quite managed to match that level of form in three subsequent outings but he seemed to resent the headgear when last in a Listed race at this venue in October and he’s given the impression that he might benefit from a gelding operation at times, a procedure that’s been performed in the interim.

A four-month break may have also helped freshen him up and with the talented Jamie Powell still able to claim 3lb, Red Evolution could be a tough nut to crack if he bounces back to something like his best.

3.17 Dundalk - Mister Adam

Mister Adam looks like another major player on Wednesday’s card. Gerry O’Leary’s representative could hardly have been more eyecatching when staying on well from the rear of the field to finish fourth of 27 in what looked like an above average Curragh maiden for the time of year in November.

Only one of the first nine home that day have run since, but she was a winner on the all-weather at Dundalk on that sole start and this colt by Too Darn Hot looks capable of following suit in a weaker race here.

O’Leary’s newcomers generally come on plenty for their initial outing and the yard could hardly be in better form, with two winners at this venue from their last two runners at the time of writing.

Mister Adam also looks sure to appreciate a step up in trip given that his dam was an Irish St Leger winner and his sire stayed this sort of distance. With an ideal draw in stall two, he could take some pegging back.

2.47 Dundalk - Eighty Eight

It often pays to be positioned prominently on the all-weather track at Dundalk and one that looks capable of getting an uncontested lead is Eighty Eight, who only just failed to make all over 1m4f here last time out.

He was a course and distance winner from the front on his penultimate start, so a drop back in distance could see him to better effect and there’s a suspicion he’s still on a good handicap mark (75).
