There's life in Wither Hills yet On his fifth outing for Dermot McLoughlin and with a hood deployed for the first time Wither Hills sprung a 33/1 surprise under Padraig Beggy in the Download Titanbet Sports App Rated Race at Dundalk. A seventh win overall and a third at Dundalk for the ten-year-old Karinga Bay gelding, the outsider benefited from a patient approach from Beggy. He eventually led over a hundred yards out for a length and a quarter win over Sharjah. The likes of Enzani and Catchy Lass finished off well for fourth and fifth positions. "He was a bit keen over two miles so we dropped him back in trip," said McLoughlin. "Padraig said they went quick enough, he dropped him in and he kept galloping. "I have him about two months and he's had a few runs for me. He had some good form here in the past. "He wants good ground and will go back over hurdles in the summer." K.J. Leonard, rider of Enzani trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a respiratory noise five furlongs out. C.P. Hoban, rider of Skerray Rules trained by M.Halford, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount lost his action in the straight. The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Enzani, ridden by K.J. Leonard, and trained by John C. McConnell. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. K.J. Leonard, stated that his instructions were to drop his horse out the back, get some cover and creep into the race, without hitting the front too soon. He added that the horse made a respiratory noise five furlongs out, before staying on past beaten horses. John C. McConnell, stated that the horse was having his first run in over a year and should improve for the run and for a step back up in trip. He expressed his satisfaction with the ride but felt the rider could have been stronger in the finish. The trainer also confirmed that the horse has a history of respiratory problems. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who stated that Enzani was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered but advised K.J.Leonard to be seen to be more forceful in the finish in future.
